Jam Box Art Studio was originally built with the intention of my partner Karen McClurkin, a qualified fine artist, educator, printer and print maker, to continue her arts practice whilst living with the pending challenges of Ovarian Cancer. She and I have loved the natural bush environment of Lower Chittering for many years, and when the two of us decided that we could set our priorities to building the studio and creating our arts business together, an action plan was set, and a dream was created. With the help of family and friends, our studio and beautiful home was built. Sadly, Karen did not manage to enjoy her art studio for long as her body succumb to the challenges of cancer. Karen’s legacy continues at Jam Box Art Studio where her art transforms into various sizes of lamps and limited-edition cotton paper prints. Other art colleagues work includes Marcia Leonard and Kirsten Biven. You can refer to their works by searching Karen McClurkin Artist, Marcia Leonard (FB Marcia Leonard) and Kirsten Biven (INSTRAGRAM: @kirstenbachbiven). To experience what some of the artworks look like in lights, refer to FB Jam Box Art & Studio Design and INSTRAGRAM: @jamboxart. ARTISAN PRACTICE As an artisan, I continue to review my practice and designs. I remain humbled by the opportunity to work with wonderful artist who light my way forward as I contemplate my journey not alone, but with the love and support of other artist and friends. During the weekends of the OPEN STUDIOs, a fundraiser box for Women’s Ovarian Cancer will be placed out for donations. Funds will be forwarded to St John of God Ovarian research centre where they continue to investigate treatments and detection of what remains the silent killer of women today. Karen was only 52 when she passed and when undergoing treatment, many women her own age or younger, were also undergoing treatment in hope to further their live expectancy.
Jam Box Art Studio is a 16x12m purpose-built art studio, situated in the tranquil bush setting of Lower Chittering. The space encompasses a large open area for workshops, artwork displays, office with a large digital giclee printer, a workshop and toilet and basin with hot water facilities. There is a ramp at the entrance of the studio suitable for wheelchair access, however, those who require the ramp, should park close to the entrance and not at the general parking. Large door openings both inside and outside the building, assist towards supporting accessibility. Purchase of art works can be made using cash, mobile transfer or tap. Receipts can also be emailed or written on the day. A place of hope and healing, where Karen inspired others to live life, reminding us that where there remains life, LIVE.
